Brinyte PT-18 Oathkeeper ( 2000 Lumens max )
After for so long that I have only got this light only in my dreams, I finally got the chance to make it real.
After reading the review, if you are interested to have this light, you can contact Pricelessmark Tech as our local distributor of Brinyte products here in the Philippines. And special thanks to Brinyte Flashlight for making this possible.
FIRST IMPRESSION: Packaging / PT-18
The Brinyte outer packaging is virtually generous already on providing plenty of literature along with some photos on their box. Then inside, you will find there is another box, looks classy, plain black but elegant with a Brinyte LOGO embossed. Honestly speaking this is the very first time I have opened a packaging of a flashlight this elegant.
Inside there is the unit, along with a generous amount of accessories;
-Brinyte PT18 Oathkeeper LED flashlight ( with a tactical ring and clip attached ) -High quality indeed holster -3 pieces lubed O-ring -USB ( C-type ) charging wire connector -Silicone loop/band ( to replace if you wish to remove the clip/ring ) -High quality lanyard -1 piece of Brinyte 18650 battery ( 3100 Mah ) -Manual -Thank you Card
Comes with a high quality holster
PT-18 Oathkeeper – PHYSICAL APPEARANCE
The light itself feels pretty solid in my hand, made out of an AIRCRAFT GRADE ALUMINUM ( AL-6061-T6) with a premium type-III military hard-anodized anti-abrasive finish. flawless machining and anodizing. All the markings were done almost perfect. just the clip and ring feels a little odd in my opinion and could have been way better if made a little thicker but it is rest assured that the ring and clip is going no where because it is attached firmly to the body tube.
Patented Tactical Ring and Clip
If you wish to REMOVE or INSTALL the tactical ring/clip, you have to remove and unscrew first the tail cap, that is how securely attached the clip/ring.
You cannot tail stand this light as the PRIMARY TAIL CAP switch protrudes and the design of these two switches are not designed for tail standing.
Tailcap switches ( Main and Side Switch)
On the tail cap, you will find two (2) switches, the PRIMARY SWITCH and the SIDE TAIL SWITCH in which I will discuss the functions as I go along with the UI (USER INTERFACE)
Near the bezel, there is another switch called the FRONT SIDE SWITCH (a Battery charge/ power indicator as well) So basically we have three (3) switches here to operate.
I cannot say it has an aggressive strike bezel but is good enough to tenderize the face of someone you hate or someone you are trying to save your life against in a self defense situation or breaking glass during emergency escape scenarios
The crenelated bezel is removable
Upon removing the tail cap, the threads were nicely lube with right amount of silicon grease and the O-ring is present making it a “water away” tightness ensuring that the waterproofness will not be compromised.
It has springs on both positive and negative terminals allowing this light to be mounted on a rifle to accept recoil or reduce shock upon impact from a high fall.
The reflector is smooth as silk allowing the light to produce a tight focused spot and yet providing a useful peripheral light.
Charging port- C Type
The charging port is on the opposite side of the SIDE SWITCH and is covered with a rubber to avoid water from getting inside, so even without a battery charger, you can charge this battery right away.
3. UI ( User Interface )
Despite of straight forward approach to access TURBO and STROBE, it takes some time for someone to master the UI of this light, I mean I LIKE the straight forward function of the Primary tail switch and Tail side switch but you have to keep the owner’s manual within reach to memorize how to toggle between MODES, STROBE and SOS using the SIDE SWITCH.
Low @ 10 Lumens
Medium @ 60 Lumens
High @ 450 Lumens
TURBO @ 2000 Lumens
Telecom Tower across the street , @ TURBO mode-2000 Lumens
Very bright at 2000 lumens MAX output utilizing CREE XHP35 LED with a very nice spacing in between brightness. operates between 3 volts – 6 volts using 1x 18650 or 2 pieces of CR123 battery. Below is the pattern sequence of modes.
2000 Lumens ( MAX )- 1 minute + 90 minutes
Low-10 Lumens- 1870 Minutes
Medium- 60 Lumens- 930 Minutes
High- 450 Lumens- 150 Minutes
PRIMARY TAIL CAP SWITCH
This is a forward click button, meaning MOMENTARY can be done, Half press for MOMENTARY and full click for CONSTANT ON/OFF.
Using the PRIMARY TAIL CAP SWITCH is set to unleash the 2000 lumens, both MOMENTARY and CONSTANT ON.
TAIL CAP SIDE SWITCH
This is your instant access to STROBE- when the light is OFF, hit this switch for instant STROBE.
MODES ( using TAIL CAP SWITCHES )
When you TURN ON the light using the PRIMARY SWITCH, as I mention above, it will be on MAX OUTPUT (2000 lumens), to toggle between MODES ( Low, Medium, High, Turbo) press the TAILCAP SIDE SWITCH to toggle between different modes, if you wishes to switch it off, then press the PRIMARY switch again.
QUESTION: how will I access the strobe now while the light is ON if the TAIL SIDE SWITCH becomes the selector for modes?
FRONT Side Switch
ANSWER: Simply DOUBLE CLICK fast the FRONT SIDE SWITCH ( not the TAIL SIDE SWITCH) .
MODES (using the FRONT SIDE SWITCH )
You can ALSO toggle between modes using the FRONT SIDE SWITCH ( Low, Medium ,High, Turbo)
HOW? When the light is ON, press the FRONT SIDE SWITCH to toggle between your desired brightness. This also serves as your power indicator, virtually indicating if you are running out of juice through different color codes.
When the light is OFF, press the FRONT SIDE SWITCH to turn the light ON, then to toggle between MODES, press the FRONT SIDE SWITCH again to toggle your desired brightness, while the light is ON, double click the FRONT SIDE SWITCH to access the STROBE, then while on STROBE, DOUBLE CLICK again to access the SOS, then click once to go back to your last brightness. To turn the light OFF, HOLD the FRONT SIDE SWITCH at least 2 seconds to turn the light OFF.
LOCK OUT- have you ever encountered burning your holster or something inside your bag or your pocket because you unintentionally turned ON your light?
Well this light has a safety measures for that, since this light can be TURNED ON by TWO (2) switches (PRIMARY TAIL SWITCH and FRONT SIDE SWITCH), each switches can be locked out independently.
Locking out the FRONT SIDE SWITCH-
When the light is OFF, press the SIDE SWITCH 3x fast, then the light will flash 2x indicating you have successfully performed the LOCK OUT, do the same trick to UNLOCK the FRONT SIDE SWITCH.
Locking the TAIL SWITCH-
CONGRATULATIONS you have locked the FRONT SIDE SWITCH! But that does not mean that the TAIL CAP SWITCHES are LOCKED, mentioned above that they should be locked independently, so you have to lock the TAIL CAP SWITCHES as well, simply by UNSCREWING the CAP counter clockwise slight turn.
Now here is my FINAL VERDICT, be mindful that this is just my personal preference and yours might be far different about this wonderful light.
This light is a GREAT light, made me love the PT18 even more because of the straight forward function of the TAIL CAP SWITCHES both Primary for the MAX BRIGHTNESS access and SIDE TAIL SWITCH for instant strobe access. It is like I saw a woman, fell in love with the physical appearance and had a date and get the chance to know more of her and made me love her even more.
For this light’s character and attitude, this is not a pocket friendly light for everyday carry as it is obviously had a bulky size but I highly suggest this for our troops and law enforcement operatives, Rescue and EMT personnel as well as a bed side illuminating tools just as we keep our Oath to PROTECT and SERVE for both of our COUNTRY MEN and FAMILIES because there is NO DOUBT that this PT-18 will surely perform what it is designed for, bringing us both CONFIDENCE and SECURITY.
